# Privacy & Data Handling

This page explains where chat is processed when you use Edge0, which actions require a network connection, where data is stored, and how to delete it. When you visit the official website, third-party download sites, or other services you connect yourself, those services' own privacy rules also apply.

## Chat is processed locally

Once a model is ready, responses are generated on the device running Edge0, and chat content is not sent to a cloud model service.

* **macOS / Windows**: by default, the desktop app communicates with the local engine over the loopback address (`127.0.0.1`), so chat data remains on that computer.
* **iOS / Android**: the app runs the model directly on the device.

macOS supports manually enabling LAN access. Once enabled, authorized devices on the same network can connect to the service on this Mac. Keep the access token safe, and do not enable this on an untrusted network.

## Which actions require a network connection

| Action | Service accessed |
| - | - |
| Getting the source and build dependencies | GitHub and related dependency download services |
| Downloading models | Model hosting sites such as Hugging Face and ModelScope |
| Opening external links | The browser visiting the corresponding site |
| Sending feedback | GitHub Issues or the support email |

The macOS and Windows apps automatically select an available model download source. iOS and Android models are prepared on a computer, and the Android app itself has no network permission.

When you access a download site, the site may obtain network information such as your IP address, but it does not receive your chat content.

## Where data is stored

| Platform | Data | Location |
| - | - | - |
| macOS | Models, chats, configuration, and logs | `~/.edge0/` by default |
| macOS | Some interface settings and the system prompt | App internal storage, not under `~/.edge0/` |
| Windows | Models, download state, and logs | `%USERPROFILE%\.edge0\` by default |
| Windows | Chats, some settings, and the system prompt | App internal storage, not under `%USERPROFILE%\.edge0\` |
| iOS | Models | Installed together with the app |
| iOS | The current conversation | Kept only while the app is running |
| Android | Chats, settings, and models | App private storage |

When using 35B, the iOS app also keeps a local acceleration cache to shorten preparation time for new conversations. The cache contains only the fixed system prompt, not your chat content.

## Logs

Logs are used to troubleshoot download, conversion, loading, and runtime issues:

* macOS: `~/.edge0/logs/`
* Windows: `%USERPROFILE%\.edge0\logs\`
* iOS: via Xcode
* Android: exported from the device via adb

Logs may contain error messages, file paths, and device information. Before sharing them, check whether they contain chat content, the system prompt, access tokens, or other sensitive information.

## Delete chats, models, and app data

### Delete chats

* macOS / Windows: delete from the chat list.
* Android: use the delete action on a conversation or message.
* iOS: tap **New chat** to clear the current conversation.

Deleting chats does not delete models, logs, or settings.

### Delete models

* macOS / Windows: unload the model in use first, then delete it on the **Models** page. Unloading only frees memory; it does not delete the files.
* Android: clearing app data or uninstalling the app also deletes imported models.
* iOS: models are installed with the app. To change which models are included, rebuild and reinstall.

### Delete app data by platform

* **macOS**: use `edge0 uninstall --purge` with the bundled command-line tool; after confirmation, it deletes the models, chats, logs, configuration, and state in the data directory. For the full steps, see the [macOS Guide](/macos-guide).
* **Windows**: delete chats and models in the app; logs and download state are kept under `%USERPROFILE%\.edge0\` and can be removed manually after uninstalling the app.
* **iOS**: delete the app in system settings.
* **Android**: clear Edge0's app data in system settings, or uninstall the app.

Model source files and converted files downloaded on a computer, as well as any backups you made yourself, must each be deleted manually.

## Submitting information to support channels

Submit only the minimum information needed for troubleshooting. GitHub Issues is a public channel that anyone can see; do not upload private conversations, access tokens, your entire home directory, or model files.

For contact details, see [FAQ & Support](/faq-and-support). Before sending an email or an attachment, remove sensitive content first as well.
